>Even tho the skies where heavy with rain clounds this morning I decided to skip by my Wednesday morn flea makets for a quick look. I was using the rationale that A) there wouldn't be many vendors, and B) there wouldn't be many buyers, so the vendors would be more apt to make deals. when I got there there was more vendors than I thought there would be, and not very many buyers, which gave me a good feeling.

Not even being there for 1 full minute, what did I spy with my little eye, but YES! Oh Joy, Eureka!, A Zyliss Vise!! Picked it up, looked it over, cranked it back and forth,asked the seller how much he said $35, I told him I'd go $25 and he said SOLD!

With it, I do believe that I got most of the add'l pieces, but no jaw covers of any type. ;~(

I saw one of these demo'd at a woodworking show back in '93 IIRC and wanted one ever since, but couldn't see the asking price for a new one so I never bought one.

I found a site on Google that I think will be a source for the missing parts and manual so I pretty stoked about that as well.

Does anybody here have and use one of these vises, and do you have any reommandations for must-have accessories?

Now, I know that this is not a heavy duty vise, but it's so light-weight and vesitile that I feel it will be a handy tool to have in my arsenal.

Picked up a few other non-descript goodies today as well, but this Zyliss tops the list.

>Yep, have one and use it, got it about 25 years ago as a Christmas present from Mom (well, it was too expensive for me to buy). Just last year I bought a set of poppets for it, but other than that, it's the basic vise with plastic jaw covers.

>Yep, I have one. I bought it about 25 years ago, and have used it about once a year since. But, when I need it, I REALLY need it. I sprung for the lathe attachment (turns it into a drill-powered lathe - kinda flimsy, but it works) which included really long rods. Couple of lengths of cold rolled would work as well, and be a whole lot cheaper!

At the time I lived in an apartment and it turned the kitchen table into my workroom as I completed the renovations. I do not recall when I last used it, but it is an old friend and currently lives a sedate life under my bench. I do recall about 5 or 6 years ago buying a video that demoed it in use. Not sure why. I think I got caught up in some emotional timewarp.

to me the greatest thing about this thing is that I can clamp it to almost any edge that is under approximately 3 inches thick. It is also very light weight,very strong, very versitile, and can used in other applications other than woodworking. with the right attachment set up I can have one end of the vise 50 or more from the other end and use it as a vise.

I wouldn't pay the price for a new one even tho I think it is such a great tool, but $25 for a used one was a steal in my opinion. Had the seller not come off of his orginal asking price of $35 I still would of bought it and never regretted it. I was shocked to see on one of the sites that the asking price for a "complete package" was $350! Paying that kind of money just goes against my nature.

I envision using it to do allot of spokeshave and drawknife work. If I want to go out into the middle of the lake on a boat and do it I now can as the weight of the vise is no an issue.

>When I made my new bench, I did not put an apron or wide front edge so that I could clamp this vice to it. I have since made various jigs and fixtures that do an even better job than the vice, but it still is handy once in a while.

Thanks for the links. I had already found them, but I appreciate the effort you made for me. :~)

I called Advance Machinery and they where very pleasant to deal with are are sending me literure. They said that all parts are available and that this vise has been unchanged for 30 years.
