>My brother-in-law has a pretty nice Disston crosscut hanging in his living room...all painted up...and not that nice of a painting either. A nature scene of some sort. Taunts me every time I visit. Me thinks that saw would be much happier working in my shop....sans art work. Groan!

>Well, let me say this about that! This past weekend was the first of this year's flea markets at Hazen, PA. Usually good pickins' and usually a large flea! Anyhow, Sunday was very cool, and many dealers stayed home and of the few that were there, most were junk crafts.
Well browsing around, I came up behind a booth that had a number of handsaws on display and all the backs were cleaned nicely. Thought for a moment that some saw guy was displaying saws that he restored and sharpened. I anxiously got around to the front and all were painted crap. Price on each was $30.00. Most were junk saws, but one was a Disston #12, with very nice handle. Didn't have the heart to tell the dealer that he could have saved painting the saw and got more on da Bay for that one.

>While vacationing in Skagway, Alaska, I spotted one of those veggy chopper thingys the locals make out of old saws. I picked up one with a nice Disston etch, held it up for my G.F. to see, and said in a voice loud enough for the shop owner to hear "Man, look at that. This came from a very rare saw - probably would have gotten 2 or three hundred on ebay" and we turned and walked out! I still wonder if he believed me, and if I ruined his day!
