Cleaning Soiled Beech Hand Plane

>I have a terribly grungy groove plane and would like to know if there's a smart way to clean this type of soil in wood. In the past I've used some TSP and hot water but perhaps there's a better way. Thanks in advance, Tom.

>I prefer Murphy�s oil soap, unless it's really gritty. Then one of our English / Aussi friends had a mix that musiuems uses to clean & presrive wood
