HOLDFAST HOLES

>Hi everyone I usually just lurk and learn. But I bought two holdfasts from Joel at Tools for Working Wood and I am perplexed as to where to place the back holes and how many. My bench is 73in by 25in work surface. So my question is where are yours and how many?

>I drill the holes for holdfasts as I need them.I keep a chucked up 3/4 auger bit in a brace nearby for the job.When I need a new hole I just try to keep it in line with other holes on the bench.So far I have three holes about 6" back from the edge spaced about a foot apart that I use most often.Also I've drilled two holes in the skirt for holding cabinet doors of various sizes in my face vise.---Jack

>two rules should cover you. 1) Drill the holes in line with the dogs on your vises. 2)The distance from one row of holes to the next should be less than the clamping capacity of your vise, that way all sizes are covered. DAMHIKT. E.G. if your vise has a clamping capacity of 12", put the dog holes 10" apart.
