What does the frog look like?

>Sounds like it could be a V&B [Vaughn and Bushnell,,,,spell?] plane....I have seen them like this though don't think the blade would be marked eclipse if original. Also thier handles are often walnut and some are made out of steel and not cast iron I belive...Todd

Neal, I think that you should of bet the farm as I do beleive that you are right. As of right now I cannot get a good look at the frog as I cannot get the lever cap off, but looing at the rear of the frog it does not look like a ramp that's for sure.

I knew there was something odd about this "BedRock" I saw the flat sides and said "Bedrock!!, Bedrock!!

Thus, once again I have been foiled, first by a Bedrock lever cap on a common #5, and now by flattops. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!

I never knew there was other makers of Bedrock style flattopped cheecks before. Ahhhhhhhhhh well, for $10 I think it's still a nice plane and that once cleaned up will make for a good user.

So, would this Eclipse be of any value/rareity?

Do I have to go to work tomorrow?

>V & B's have "dropped forged" written on the toes. Handles are also made out of cherry (stained) on a lot of them.

The other thing you could do is cut yourself with the plane and then sue the seller for $2 million, that would also work ;)

>Yeah Ray, that's one of the sites I was browsing last night, however nothing was matching up. I got to thinking--well wishful thinking anyhow--that perhaps this was perhaps some type of prototype. Neal nailed tho as I'm sure it's just an Eclipse. For $10 I'd still of bought it reguardless, so I'm not out nothing. It has a very small mouth, tho it's kinda light, but I bet it'll be good for something. The sides are only 1.5 inches tall, so I don't know how that compares with Bedrocks.

someday I'll find a true Bedrock for cheap, but until then I'd better be leary as I've been fooled twice now, and I suspect it won't be long before Ernie grinds the tops of a shelton and tries to pass it off as a BedRock to me. He's a crafty one is our Ernie. ;~)

I'll post pics this weekend after I get it cleaned and taken apart.

Even though the bodies are almost indestructible, they DO like to rust up a treat!

In my defense, I should add that I've had quite a few tools "lent" to me over the years and they've always returned to their owners much better than when they left them. I only torture my own tools. :-)

>VB planes are a bit of a mystery to me, I have a couple and have seen a good many others and there are quite a few variations it apears, not all are square side and not all are forged steel, I have had them with a lever cap with the logo on them like the one on the ebay auction and I have had them with plain lever caps. Sold one a while back on ebay that had a lever cap with the sides jappaned. Some have bedrock frogs some don't. I thought all had walnut handles but don't know...all that I have had did.Once talked with a guy that had a thing for them and he told me the quality was all over the place with some being very well made and some not and not much ryme or reason he felt. The ones I have seen and have, seem to be nice planes though.....Todd
