Negative Feedback wait time

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native now in Jax Fl.

>Yesterday I left a Negative Feedback for a seller after an 11 day wait. I won the iten on the 9th of this month knowing that I'd wait for the seller to info me of the shipping and handling. By thre afternoon of the 10th I had heard nothing, so I sent an e-mail via e-bay requesting the S&H. I got to reply, so on the 13th I sent another request for it and got no reply. On the 19th I went thru e-bay and got his phone number and called him. I had to leave a message on on answer machine. I gave him my phone number and e-mail address. By the afternoon of the 20th he still had not made any contact so I left him a Negative.

Today he left me a Negative saying that "He was out of Town for a few week". Yeah sure, what town did he go too where he couldn't access a computer? Sure got back to me fast after getting a Negative tho. I am not in the slightest bit concerned with this Negative as it is obviously a retailatoy one. I think, if his out of town story is true he would of said something like "Oops, sorry about that, what I can do make you happy and perhaps have these Negative mutually removed"? I truly believe that he got a better offer for it after I "won" it. I was the only one to bid on it and got it for his Opening Bid of $45.00.

So, the question is, how long do you all wait before leaving a seller a Negative?

>These days I don't leave negative feedback, the very threat of such is usually more powerful and effective. The last time I did, the a**hole bounced a check, which cost me money. I left bad feedback, he retaliated. Of course, I responded to his negative feedback, but it's still there and still galls. Fact is, you aren't out anything except a little frustration and time. And yes, a seller did a similar thing to me, so I called him a liar in private email (said he'd dropped and damaged the antique stove I'd won for cheap) and watched him for about a year to see if he tried to sell it again (this is pretty easy with the ebay searching mechanism).

>The way I understand it is you have 90 days to leave feedback. My experience is that only if a seller is new will they leave feedback for the buyer prior to themselves receiving feedback. Unfortunately, some lame sellers use it as retaliation for negative feedback they may have well deserved. I opted out of giving a lame seller negative feedback after going through his log and seeing that everyone who had a legit sounding grief, got the same uninformative negative feedback from the seller.

Why should it rub off on you for you doing a good deed and giving some unknown future customer of theirs a heads up? If you want to vent or warn others in the future, protect yourself and wait till it's too late for the seller to retaliate willy-nilly. Keeping your motivation to respond 89 days later is the tricky part, but I guess that depends on how much you've been burned.

>I agree. If you're going to leave negative feedback (I don't bother with it myself) then waiting until the very end is the best thing. They simply run out of time to respond. I do leave good feedback to those who deserve it, but ONLY after they leave feedback for me first. That way I can retaliate if I feel I need to. Fortunately most of my transactions have been good.

Not that I haven't been burned by bad sellers or buyers before. I've had items misrepresented, items not arrive, items shipped surface mail when I've paid for airmail (I was refunded in the end), sellers refusing to sell me items because I was not American (though I was in America with a private U.S. address and was only a few hours away from this seller. I felt like turning up on their doorstep and saying "Well, where is it?"). On the other end of the spectrum I've also had one item I've sold disappear in the mail (supposedly), so I've had to pay a $250+ refund. Thats the breaks though.

It's always a bit of a gamble with eBay but, so far, I've had many more positives than negatives when dealing with people there. Occasionally I overpay for things that I really want but, generally, I get things at reasonable prices - or even for a fraction of the price. You do need to check what people's feedback ratios are though. A few negative feedbacks are OK but if the seller has too many then stay well away.

>That is too bad about the grinder. Sounds like you got ahold of an idiot seller. I don't really think that grinder was cheap at $45 though; I think you paid a pretty steep price for it :) I think if I was going to be out of town for a few weeks I wouldn't put anything on ebay to sell. I certainly wouldn't worry about the negative feedback; at the rate you are spending your money, there will always be people that are willing to take it ;)

>One guy I contacted after a two week wait responded that had forgotten all about putting the item, a few plane parts, up for sale until he found the box of parts in his truck. He mailed the parts and credited my paypal account with the amount that I had paid. There wasn't much money involved but it showed his heart was in the right place and of course I gave him positive feedback. One guy was late paying me for something and did not answer my e-mails. I went through e-bay who sent him a "do better" e-mail and he paid me right away. Even gave me positive feedback!

>I once got a negative because I didn't contact the buyer for over a week after the auction ended. ..Of course I had emailed him about 4 times but because of his spam filter he didn't get it.Finaly I went to the trouble of getting his number and calling him and told him I had emailed him but not getting though probably because of some spam filter. I pretended to have not seen the negative and when he told me what he had done he felt pretty bad and we ended up having it mutually removed. Had a woman in England send me threating emails that she was going to leave me a negative if I didn't contact her. Same thing, I finaly called her and asked her if she had just got a new spam program..."Why Yes?"...Then made me hold paying the long distance bill while she walked to France to get a pencil to write down my address. As a seller can tell you most buyers do not contact me after an auction and If I left negatives for buyers that took longer the 11 days to pay...well I would be leaving a pile of negatives! I normally don't even send a reminder out till 20 days or so after an auction

....I used to leave negatives for buyers that don't pay but just not worth it because you are guarranteed to get one in return. I have 10 neg. out of almost 6,000 feedback and most are from people that never paid. Just not worth it to me and as a buyer a negative feedback has no affect. I do report them to abay as non paying bidders so i can get a refund on my listing fees and if they get 3 of these reports they get booted off ebay

...Any seller that leaves feedback first is just a slowhead waiting for trouble and he probably will not have a long wait if he sells much. A seller does not know if the deal has gone well till the buyer informs him so by his leaving feedback. Once even had a guy try to trick me by saying how much he loved the item etc. and that he just left me positive feedback and for me to leave him the same. I checked and he never left the feedback. About week or so later i get this strange email saying how what he bought from me was crap etc. etc. I sent him back his first email of his saying how much he loved it....who knows what he was trying to pull.

....Is funny but I was looking at a feedback page the other day of a guy whose scam was buying expensive tools paying with them using paypal and then canciling the paypal payment and keeping the tools!Had 27 negatives but lots of positives but those that left the positive then left a follow up saying how he isn't a "Great Ebayer" but rather a crook who stole thier tools. He finaly got kicked off but looks like he made quite a haul......Todd

>I will buy the insurance myself on more expensive items just to protect myself. I sold a printer scaner copier not to long ago the buyer declined insurance. but I bought it any way. he e-mailed me saying it got broke in the mail. I told him it was OK as I insured it filled out the paper work and mailed it off. I never heard from him again. I think he was trying to scam me. but can't say for sure. the insurance calim was never made on his end because he never took it and the package to the postal Inspector.
