>No, yes and yes. but good guess on the first. The picture makes it look blacker than it really is. It is zircote. The Cocobolo is the left rear and there is one other cocobolo. The pink dogwood is one of my favorite lighter woods. Hard, turns great, needs no finish (just wax) and has a very nice pinkish color. Almost looks like pink hardrock maple. I originally got it years ago from, I believe, Lee Valley. I think it was for loom shuttles. They had a train load of it and unfortunately, I only bought a little bit. I am almost out but am saving some for a few of my own handles (G). Of course, I usually just get the rejects!

By the way, what kind of finish is that? Just a HUT type friction carnuba wax or something else? Assuming I got lucky with my guesses..

I would guess the dogwood in the back looks like it was oiled before the wax went on, but not the dogwood in the front. If that jatoba is jatoba, I would bet no oil used prior to wax.

Some good guesses! They look so much better in person :)

I like to use a polish and carnuba wax for the woods that do not need more of a finish. If they do, then I use a tung oil, gloss polyurethane and turpintine mix applied on the lathe and burnished in with a paper towel. Most woods only need one or two applications. Curly maple usually needs a bit more work but looks great when completed.

BTW do you have any pink funkadoo? I would love to try some!
