Boston/Nashua trip

>I'm traveling to Nashua, NH, by way of Boston and might have a few hours to kill. Given that very limited timeframe, can anyone recommend any fun woodworking-related things to do/see? I'll have a car, so it can be anywhere from Boston to Nashua or thereabouts. It will be on a Thursday during the day. Suggestions of galleries, tool stores, museums, workshops or what have you would be much appreciated.

>I don't know where Nashua is, but if it's anywhere near Hampton and Mike Dunbar's Windsor Institute, that's definetly worth a stop. His next class is the Boston Fan Back which starts May 8th - so if you're up there during that week, you could see a whole class in action.

>If you are going to go as far as Boston you might consider stopping in at the North Bennett Street school and look around. This is where the likes of Phil Lowe and many other reknowned woodworkers have studied or taught and I think it might be quite a treat to see the insides of this place. You know there are also several well known tool dealers in that area that you might visit. You should look at the Midwest Tool Collectors website and see who might be close. I know Phil Whitby is just southwest of Hampton and is a nice guy to visit. You might contact him and he can give you an idea of others in the area. And if you have a hankering to drive a couple hours you could make a visit to the Lie-Nielsen factory and stop by the Center For Furniture Craftmanship which is another seven miles up the road from LN. It would eat up a day but it would be a nice trip. I did it when I was in Hampton taking a Dunbar class and it is a really nice drive up the coast.
Anyways enjoy yourself, its pretty country.

A nice place to viist an hour north of Nashua is Canterbury Shaker Village and nearby is Tom McLaughlin's McLaughlin Woods woodworking school and David Lamb's shop. Others have given you some good ideas on the Boston area.
