My first eBay issue

Bill Houghton, raining again...in Sebastopol, CA

>Winning bidder on a Stanley 610. Mailed the check. Seller says s/he didn't receive it, but is willing to send it back if it ever arrives, so I sent a second one certified mail. As of so far, seller hasn't picked it up from post office yet, but yesterday I got a late model Millers Falls POS drill for which I'd have paid a dollar at a garage sale from the seller.

I e-mailed the seller, but haven't heard back yet. Advice?

>Sounds like a simple mess up where the seller sent the wrong item out. In this case probably made easier because they hadn't got your payment yet telling them what it was for.If you don't hear back from your email you can go though ebay and get thier phone number and give them a call.....If you sell a lot on ebay, or maybe if you sell just a little it is easy to make mistakes like this. While it may be more sinister I always like to give the person the benifit of the doubt first... >Bill,

I agree with Todd on making a phone call. I once got into a confusing situation on eBay--nothing had happened amiss yet, but I was mailing payment to one place, and hearing back from another place. So I made one phone call to clear things up. Seller was a great guy, had a nice chat, and cleared everything up. Really nice not to have a nagging issue in the back of your mind.

>This is the type of situation in which Paypal can provide lots of peace of mind, what with their buyer protection scheme. If the buyer doesn't receive it, you file a claim and the money comes back.

>on the bay has almost always been positive. Some sellers (and buyers) are not good record keepers. I myself have gotten ebay payment checks mixed in with the bills (now there's a looong wait in time out for the pitiful payment). Follow up phone calls always get everything back on track. Good luck.

>Hi Bill,

This is what one really dissatisfied buyer did:

He had bought a Navajo blanket from someone that described it (to the best of my memory) as a little frayed but otherwise in good condition. When he got it there were holes in it that were not mentioned in the description or were evident in the pictures. He went through the whole routine (according to him) - talked to the seller, asked for a refund - finally leaving negative feedback when he didn't get satisfaction.

But he didn't stop there - he put it back on eBay with a scathing description of the blanket along with who he bought it from. He included detailed pictures of all the flaws including the holes. It sold (for a lot lower price than he paid) to my wife who can spin and reweave (when she gets around to it - we have the same sort of production schedule.) I've wondered if he was doing this as a basis for a court case - maybe small claims. In any case my wife was satisfied and her deal went off without a hitch.

I don't think thats really appropriate for your case - but I thought it was an interesting approach. :)

>It definatly sounds like a book keeping error or at least a mix up on lables. you lable was put on some one elses package and they got yours. I would do as others have said and give them a call.

>I won a nifty two wheeled grinder n the 9th of April and have never heard from the seller. I've sent him two e-mails via e-bay and still no response. I guess he dosen't want to sell it for my winning bid of $45, which was the opening bid set my him!

funny how it all works sometimes eh? Sellers tell buyers "If I don't get payment in x amount of days I'll give you a negative feedback", and than we get a seller dosen't respond to the winning bidder.

I dunno, perhaps he is sick, or maybe even dead, but at any rate I'm not going to beg him to sell it to me, but I darn sure won't be bidding on any of his future auctions.

>Two e-mails later, I still haven't heard back. If the check doesn't get picked up from the post office by Saturday (I sent it certified), I guess I'll mail the Millers Falls drill back with a note that I consider the deal off - and then, yes, be sure not to bid on this seller's offerings again.

>agreeing to let the deal go. The seller kindly said to keep the drill (else I'd have had to return it) and just tore up the check.
