>Found a Disston #9 rip saw w/ nib a week ago. Todd the answer to your question is, Yes. Handle and medallion indacate it was made in the 1880's. I've had been looking for a good rip saw and this one showed up. It has just under 5 tpi, the blade is 28" long, the etching is in good shape, with some pitting on the blade but none near the teeth.
Did Disston put a paper label around the medallion?
This one has a partial that looks like "...penig to.." is all I can bearly read w/more lettering on the inner ring. The label is green.
I took it directly to my saw sharpener last friday. He couldn't sharpen it because the blade was too tall. Told me he had to modify a jig before he could.
Having not been able to try it out and him in the process of moving I told him I'd bring it back after the move.
I think there is hope for this Hand Tool revieval. He said they are seeing more and more of these saws. He felt he had to have a jig to sharpen this size saw.
