Finishing Question

>A friend at work built some additional cabinets for his kitchen and is having trouble matching the original "bleached maple" finish. He contacted the company that made the original cabinets but they will not give any info on the finish only sell him new doors for $$$$$$$$. I have not seen the finish but from what he told me, it sounds like a white wash that has been wiped off leaving a thin coat. Any ideas?

>If you are near a large city there will be a solution to the problem. Find a place that sells finsih into the cabinet/furniture finishing trade. For example here in states I would be looking for an indsutrial branch of Sherwin Williams or a retail S&W branch that serves the trade. A tech person at such a place will be able to identify the finish and provide a schedule for reproducing it. Also a large shop making cabinets may be able to offer similar advice.
White Stain for Maple

>I had a project where I needed to match existing maple cabinetry that had a whitewashed look and a lacquer finish. What worked for me was a pigment stain I bought at a local paint and stain company. I believe it contained titanium dioxide in a mineral spirits base.
By diluting it with paint thinner I was able to closely match the look of the original cabinets.
