>For those of you who are not in North America, please note that since the last chat we have set our clocks forward one hour and are now operating on Daylight Savings Time.

I'd be willing to discuss finding old woodworking tools this evening, since I spent last Saturday attending the anual CRAFTS auction in Flemington, NJ, but didn't find what I was really looking for.

>Hi,

I'm looking forward to the chat tonight. However, last time I tried the chat, I couldn't figure it out completely. If I'm mostly "listening," it disconnects me after a short while. Which of the icons is a "refresh" button that would keep me logged on to the chat?

Thanks,

Andy

>Curious. I thought Ellis had disabled the heartbeat function, but I may be wrong, as is often the case. Of course, I'd never notice if it were working, as I always have way too much to say. See you there.

>William,

Over here we've put our clocks forward too - British Summer Time. So that'd still be GMT-5 I think. Which still means 4.30am, so forgive me if I don't rush to join in... :~(

Cheers, Alf

>Nope, they don't set "The Clock" at the Greenwich Observatory ahead when you go on sunny time. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) remains GMT throughout the year. Note that when we go on Daylight Savings Time in the eastern U.S., we change the units of measure from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). EST is always GMT-5 hours, and EDT is always GMT-4. BST is GMT+1. And, BTW, there is no observatory in Greenwich, NJ. We don't even pronounce it the same.

>William, Correct me if I'm wrong but I pronounce the other one Gren-itch.(that's how New Yorker's pronounce Greenwich Village) Is that right? How does NJ pronounce the word?---Jack

Re: pronunciation

William Duffield, on the Cohansey

>Green-witch, long double "e" and voiced "w", accent on the first syllable. Several residents have sheet metal wind vanes, in the silhouette of a witch on a broom, painted green, just so nobody forgets. Many still pronounce it like the places in England, NYC, Connecticut, and elsewhere. A historical curiosity: during the revolutionary war, they decided they would no longer pronounce it like the British did, and wrote the new "correct" pronunciation into the law books.

Of course, the real time is whatever we say it is.
