Seems most of the conversation about planes revolves around the typical block and bench planes.

Moving fillisters, plows etc do seem to be nearly as popular. Where in reality they are fine tools that perform very well.

Like to share a plow plane the was reproduced by Bob Baker. The Solon Rust Plow was arguably one of the first plows (1870`s) that featured a novel adjusting system. Moving away from the screw stem or wedge lock arms.

Bob was able to reproduce 10 of these plows using the actual tools from Solon Rust`s tool box. Made of applewood, lingum vit. and brass. With a cast iron bridle and steel adjuster.

Take a look at some of these older, less popular tools. They can be had fairly inexpensively. Carry a great tradition and are a joy to use.

Mike, Bob Baker does not have a web site. His work is all by word of mouth.

Pam I did not know "The Best Things" had S.Rust advertised. Is it an original or a Baker ?

I fully intend on using it. Perhaps not as a day to day workhorse but enough to justify calling it a working tool.

The Brown Auction (FTJ), Martin D. and of course eBay are all good sources. A decent user plow or fillister can be had for less then a 100 easy.

I think the fence adjuster is just about perfect, seemingly eliminates all the problems with conventional wooden armed plows. Not being a historian, I don't know that there aren't/weren't other solutions made at some point, but this one seems ideal.

Plow planes in general, and wooden armed in particular, seem to be overpriced on ebay and everywhere else. Of course, apparently the market sets the prices so that there is no such thing as overpriced; but still.

Did you get a set of irons with it?

Mine is #8 in the series of 10. Although I did not get a set of irons directly from Bob. I was able to get a complete set that would be matched to that series of plow.

That's a beauty! I'm sure you'll get some nice groove with that. More importantly though, it'll be enjoyable. I use my wooden plow for the fun of it.

Regarding plow discussions, do a search on Woodcentral for plow plane. There's about 80 posts on this topic just since November.
