Stanley No.624 Hand Drill

but later inspection revealed broken springs in the chuck .
I was able to get a replacment chuck from stanley but it came with a new shaft also. My Question is how do I remove the old now damaged shaft so I can install the new one.
The drill is a model 624. Any help would be welcome as I could not get any from Stanley Customer support.

Talking strickly thru mt hat as I don't have either a 624 handy, nor a picture of one I'm mostly thinking outloud here. However, in some drills where the shaft enters the small gear there is a pin that goes thru the gear and shaft. This pin is then filed flush with the gear so as not to interfear with the teeth in the crank-wheel, thus making it very very difficult to find. You may not even be able to find it at all. I wouldn't of known that either had I not once seen a drill where for some reason the pin was coming out of it's hole.
