Bedrock Prices on the 'Bay *LINK*

>I am not one who likes to store tools I don't use and am thinking about unloading my Flat sided type 6 bedrock 604.5
I have been checking EBay and haven't seen allot of 604.5's which have sold and am wondering if I should just hold onto it for the kids to use further down the road.
My 604.5 is in nice shape but not collector quality (small chip missing out of the knob, and about 70% jappanning)

When I bought the plane they were selling for much more on the "'Bay from what I remember.
Seems to me prices on the 'Bay have dropped off the last coupla years when it comes to hand planes.
I used to make a killing on Berg chisels but the Canuck buck getting close to the US dollar it ain't worth the hassle anymore

>I think this is a pretty natural thing to happen. As the majority of people get on-line the prices go up because there are things available that weren't readily available before. So more and more stuff starts getting sold, and the demand is actually going down as the supply goes up. At some point this will start reversing again, as the supply is in fact limited, and the demand I think will stay steady and slowly increase. Tools are definitely a long term investment before any money is made, unless of course you buy them right as Todd suggested. Like the guy who found a like new 604-1/2 at a garage sale for $75; the guy had thrown the box away the day before.

In the last month or so on it I have sold one very nice no. 4 for around $140 and several other 3,4, and 5 for $70-90+. These same planes I used to break up to sell for parts as they were worth more that way but not now......I think it is just that tools are maybe finaly starting to inch upward in price like they should....Todd
