I agree with Lee that the French walnut handles, while better than a bare tang, are ergonomically an inferior shape for a rasp, as they are too sharp at the butt end for a tool that is pushed.

Your ferrules won't split if you make them like I make mine.

I'd take them out, expand them to put glue into the cracks, then thereafter gently enlarge the hole with drill by cutting sideways with the bit. It'd be all-right.

Some of the ones Lee had on clearance at PATINA had handles that looked like red beech. Whatever choices Auriou provides, however, they are all the same suboptimum (IMHO) shape.
