Stanley Level Help

>How do you get the vertical vial out of a stanley 0, 1, 2 or 3 level. I removed the brass cap and adjusting screw which leaves a metal cup. It looks like it may have prongs holding it in place.

Thanks

>A while ago I re-habed a wooden cutlery box. After mind melding with it I finally just pried the hinges out. They were "point"s or " spade"s. Couple months ago I got a no-name level. I took a chance that the "cups" were the same. They were. Trick is that as the cup was pushed in the points curved / bent into the wood. Kinda like they followed the grain as they went in.NOW I'm melding with those points. Trying to talk them into following that same curve withpout flatening or breaking off. Right now it is a standoff between us.

>Steve, thanks for your help, they came out pretty easily. I thought the prongs would have gone in sideways, wedging the cup in the opening. Instead, they went straight down which provides very little holding power. I guess the vials aren't likley to pop out before they break anyway. I was surprised to find out the tubes around the vials, which look like brass, are only brass plated. I used brasso to remove tarnish and crud and cleaned to bear metal.

>Hey, good deal ! Glad the spades were sraight. The first try with pliers to straighten them then re-insertt 'em and SNAP ! Just - light with the Brasso ! That stuff 'll chew right through the plating. Do you have brass " rails " down the sides length-wise ?
