PATINA Show This Sat in Damascus, MD

Todd Stock

>Hope someone has mentioned it already, but if not...PATINA Spring auction and dealer tool sale at the Vol FD in Damascus, MD this Sat. 8 AM entry if you want to pop for $15 early admission, or free at 9 AM. Tailgating as usual.

Looking for a 36" aircraft layout rule (1/100 scale)- hope I find it.

>I'll keep an eye out Todd. 36" rules sould stick out pretty good.

Some sort of side rabbet plane(s) ala 79 or 98/99 are on my list. Might follow Todd H. around and pore over anything he picks up and sets down :-) JR

>I'll be there, too, Todd. I plan to drive down to Reston, VA on Thursday evening, and then up to Damascus before dawn Saturday morning. I'm not sure what I'll be looking for. Things can get very expensive if you start in with a "must find" list.

>Come to think of it, I'm also looking for a decent set of patternmakers paring chisels - pref including the 1-1/4 width that I find pretty handy. There was a decent set of older vintage Sorby chisels last year that I took a pass on(dumb).

Any pref on the 79 versus 98/99? I have a Stanley UK #79 of recent vintage (late Eighties) that stands a good chance of getting traded for a couple of guitar tops...yours for a song if you need it.

>Wow Todd...I'm sure my singing won't recoup the value of a #79. However...I will be bringing cash in small(read little numbers)ammounts:-) Be thinking about a value and when I see you we can dicker. I passed on one (79) last year and have regretted it!

See you there.JR

>I just spoke with Tom Law yesterday and he infomred me thath te PATINA sale was going on this weekend. Sadly enough while my favorite show I will not make it to the eastern seaboard for the event this year. I sure am going to miss it as I hear that there might even be a bit of good weather this year. That hasn't been the case in my past experiences there. I told Tom the only reason I buddied up to him and helped him carry his tools in was to get out of the cold.

You guys have a good time and if you see Tom ask him where that good looking guy from Washington State is. And inform him that sales would probably be up if I were there.

Looking forward to the full report on Monday from you guys.

Dave

>I'm sure we can work out a trade. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've found for me. Which size burnisher do you want? Which wood species? I've got several "in the works."

I talked with Zodo this evening. He's planning to attend.

I've got a long list. I figure it's better to have a list that's too long than one that's too short. I'd like to find a copy of Moxon, maybe a #80 scraper, a spare Jacob's chuck, maybe an anvil, various machinist's tools, carving and turning gouges.

>Ah...The carving gouges...Good. The trade bait will "dovetail" nicely with that. No more hints :-)

Any nice wood and about the same size you had at the breakfast will do fine.JR

>Hi Dave. We will sure miss you this year. In our windbreakers in 70 deg weather. (No gloat just happy) I will speak to Tom about the missing manpower this year and last.

After your "fire sale" recently I would guess you don't have much on your wish list. But if you hanker for something I could keep an eye out.

Let me know. And start looking for cheap air fare for next March.JR
