>Anyone have experience with this style of sawset ? I assume that the numbers on the little wheel refer to tpi, but I'm unsure about the adjustment of the set screw. Any tips would be appreciated.

The Morrill patent with the screw should look similar to the one below. Note that there were many variations of this set and yours may not look exactly like it. Regardless, even the ones with the slide for the lower adjustment operate the same.
This picture shows the lower adjustment backed off a bit. This allows the saw plate to align itself to the chamfered portion of the round anvil. What this means is that less set is produced because the saw blade is already sitting close to the angle of the chamfered part of the anvil itself. When the strike pin pushes against the tooth, it has less distance available to bend the tooth.
This next picture shows the adjustment screw, screwed-in to hold the saw blade more vertical. This means that the saw blade is aligned with the face of the round anvil. Therefore the saw blade will bend against the chamfered portion to a greater degree.
