What do I do now?

>I was given a few old tools by a friend. I dont think I will be using them much for a while as I am not yet that good of a wood worker. I need to know what to do with them as far as cleaning them up and making them useable. I recieved 2 planes I think are jointer planes, one is a Stanley #32 the other is a Sandusky Tool Co #19. Any help would be appreciated.

If you go to the "Articles and reveiws" section here there are lots of articles on restoring planes. The link will tell you a little about the Stanley plane. I can't help with the other.

Not sure of the condition of the planes but check out the link to the article below. It is from the Badger Pond (BP) Articles and Reviews, link found on the left side of the page.
It is an article written by RJ Whelan on tuning up metal handplanes that should have some relevance.
Having not seen the planes I would just sharpen the blade first and see how it works. If you still find it lacking ask a question here or search past postings. I'm sure you will get the help you need.
