Even the tailed jointer "expressed its disapproval" at handling the stuff...

Smells nice though, like chocolate when sawn...

You might want to talk to Steve Knight about the ipe. He uses it as the sole for many of his planes. My 2 Knight bench planes have iipe soles and they are slick, slick, slick. Very nice indeed.
