I am making a low table with two drawers. I am planning a chamfer from the floor to about 1-1/2" from the lower surface of the top along the outside edges of the two front legs. I saw a lamb's tongue somewhere and I think that would be an interesting way to terminate the chamfer at the top. I tried to reproduce it with some chisels. I used a gouge across the grain and then a straight chisel to finish the shape and then a little sanding. I may be doing it right but I'm not sure if there might not be a better way. Anyone with a sure-fire method? Please share.

>I have made them on the lathe with gouge. It's a little tense when the post is big. First cut should start 1/16" or so from the start of the transition and then go back with a finish cut to the line ( minimized potential for splintering).

>From the response to do it on the lathe, I may be thinking of something different. Are we talking about the transition from a chamfer to a 90 degree corner? I always hand carve them with a small chisel.

That's what I was thinking about as well and the link in my response above to Sir William shows an excellent video clip of one being carved with a straight chisel and a small knife.
