Good God man, what have you been smoking?! Just how much is a ream of A4 photocopy paper in the USA? The average price in here is around $5 AUD (about $3.70 USD).

Anyway, we did a project in Australia and I'm ashamed at the number of trees that were killed. Paper certainly wasn't expensive.

My experience in Australia was that living expenses were very similar to Canada. Rent was more expensive but we were living in the Central Business District. If she's getting hosed (sorry, perhaps a Canadian expression), then she needs to look around a bit more and check in with her local colleagues.

If you wanted to buy European sized paper here, it will probably cost more. If she doesn't really need 8 1/2 by 11, then she should go buy it at an office supply or a Kmart type place and use their standard size.

I can't add anything more to what's been said - there's a range of office supplies stores that is huge - Officeworks is the name - good for all stationary supplies. Maybe try there as well.

If she's in Canberra, then there's no shortage of office suppliers around - it's our centre of Government and national capital.

The best advice is for her to talk to the locals and find out where the best places to go are.

She MUST change the DEFAULT paper size

The FIRST thing your friend has to do is change the DEFAULT paper size on her computer to A4 (if she can't see A4 as an option on her computer, she'll need to enter A4 as a CUSTOM paper size � in INCHES A4 paper is 11.69 (high) x 8.27 (wide), in mm the dimensions are 297 x 210).

As to where to buy it, I get mine from the local Post Office for AUD$5.95 per ream (500 sheets), a dollar less if I buy the really cheap stuff.

Getting arround Canberra by bus is not particularly cheap, especially if she is not entitled to a Student's concession card � tell her to check with the Student's Union and student's services at her colledge.

Long term, her best option will be to get a cheap bicycle � Canberra's flat and has bike paths everywhere so it's easy to get arround.
