>One of my students broke the tote on my Miller Falls smoother. I juryrigged a tote from an old stanly aluminum handle that will work, but that red paint just looks and feels wrong. Any ideas as to where to get a nice wooden tote? Thanks in advance.

Why not make one? Not hard to do. Good step by step instructions at Alf's website.
Else, Woodcraft usually has replacements. Mike in Katy Texas makes very nice replacement totes.
