SS sharpening (and lapping) tip

David Charters (Durham, NC)

>Hi everyone, I was just sharpening plane blades, and lapping a sole last night and thought I'd share a tip. You all might be doing this already but hey. The problem is that you get a mess of iron filings that clog the sandpaper. What I did was to take a large flat fridge magnet, put it in a zip-loc bag (to keep it clean) and wrapped the whole thing in a paper towel. Now when my sandpaper gets saturated, I just sweep this thing over it and it magically sucks up most of the mess. It works like a charm, so I thought I'd share. Cheers!
