>I printed out and read your tale a few times before starting mine. Of course the first blank I marked from the front and not the back for the center line of the blade holes didn't realize the error until it came time to cut the blade recess. Oh well time to cut a new blank and start over, dammit.

>You can buy the blade from Hock or KCWTW but it's not that much cheaper than LV's kits.You could buy old worn out wooden shaves for the blade.I've made 3 so far.One from a Dave's shaves kit containing a Hock blade.One from a Hock blade I got at Woodcraft and one from a KCWTW blade I got from Garrett Wade.I have a few old blades from rust bucket shaves but I haven't gone that route yet.They are fun to make.---Jack

However, what I would like to see is a "second kit" without the tap. I'm going to make several other spokeshaves and don't need to accumulate more of the same tap.

Keep an eye out for the older type of spokeshaves that are held in place by friction. If they have a good blade and they're cheap - they're worth getting IMO - especially the ones with the curved blades. You can use the instructions from the LV kit for virtually the entire operation - except that you don't have to tap the holes. :)
