I agree about the thumbscrews though, that's a nice improvement. Do you think we can assume that the threading/etc. is the same, so that we could just replace the current screws with the thumbscrews?

Epic sets this afternoon. The only bad thing surfed thru my shop time too... oh well, it WAS worth it. After all salt water adn spokeshaves don't mix.

Yeah. Not a new idea. I have a "Woden" rebate plane, similar to a Record #778, with a round nicker that works in exactly this way. Tool is from the mid 1960's.
