What Happened to Simpson Machine Tool Company?

>I found a mortise gauge with a piece of paper showing the email address tools@smtco.com. I did a search and am pretty sure the company is (or was) Simpson Machine Tool Company. I'm curious as what happened to that company. Judging by the look and feel of the gauge, it must be a decent company.
