Made a Veneer Hammer *PICS*
L. Hanson
>Had a little time this morning, and was trying to figure out what to do with an old messed up brass back for a saw - just can't get myself to throw this sort of stuff away. Then it suddenly occured to me that it would make a great brass face for an old style veneer hammer - so off to the lathe with a scrap piece of ash, and to the saw with a scrap piece of hickory for the face I went:

The face of the hammer is about 6" x 3", and the handle is about 8" long:

The handle is held in place with a wedge and glue, and the brass is slip fit into a groove at the bottom of the face - if it comes loose, I'll just epoxy it into place:

Then some finish with BLO and shellac - only took about an hour to make - a fun little project!
