Preston 1909 catalog for Wiley & Alice *LINK*

Pam Niedermayer - Austin, TX

>Wiley, Alice, and anyone else who'd like to buy one of everything Preston, I found a great catalog on ebay last week, great printing job, forward by Mark Rees, 168 pages plus addenda short catalogs, 2 pages of iron spokeshaves, 3 pages of chamfer shaves, quirk routers, etc., and 1/2 page of wooden shaves at multiple sizes. All in all, a great read.

I got mine straight from the shop in Needham.

>Yes, that's what I figured; therefore making this a source of information rather than a gloat, which your "straight from the shop in Needham" definitely qualifies for. :)

>Hi Pam,

Thanks a lot for the followup! Very thoughtful. My first thought was to go fishing on Ebay. Turns out Astragal Press is selling these for $15 + UPSshipping, so I went that way. If you hadn't posted this, I wouldn't have gone searching, so much thanks. Also, congratulations to the UK folks who own the real deal.

Just to be clear, I've got the same reprint(*) as is being discussed - an original costs MONEY unless you're really lucky.

BugBear (with a 3 GBP 1908 issue of Modern Practical Joinery)

(*) IIRC there's another reprint of a Preston catalogue with a different date out there.

That is correct. Ken Roberts reprinted the July 1901 (Sixth Edition) Edward Preston & Sons Ltd. Illustrated Price List. That reprint was published in 1979.
