>I am an avid lurker on this forum, but it has been a while since I have posted anything.

Just wanted to show a set of chisels I Re-handled a few weeks ago.

This was a set of old plastic handled chisels I got off Ebay. I rehandled them with some apple that I had laying around the shop. The first three are Crafstman, and the smaller ones were no-names. I made the handles with a Draw knife, a spoke shave, and a belt sander. The finish is some carnaba wax that I put on with the buffer.

>Nice work, Dave. How did you go about removing the plastic on the chisels? I've been wanting to do this project also but I can't think of a way to remove the old handle. The material seems to be nearly indestructible. Thanks, Tom.

>I used a heat gun...took about 1 minute to heat up the plastic around the tang. I put the buisness end of the chisel in a vice, and moved the heat gun around the plastic handle. When the plastic started to bubble I grabbed the handle with a pair of vise grips and pulled it right off. I've also heard of peple boiling the chisels in a pan of water, but the wife would probably kill me if I did that!
