Saturday drive to new woodstore

>Living in Tallahassee Florida is nice except when you need some hardwood. The only thing I miss about Atlanta is the wood and tool stores. Well, at last, Tallahassee has WOOD. Swanee Hardwoods just opened a store on #90 between here and Quincy. I went to their open house Saturday and felt rejuvinated just smelling the nice wood on display. Sometimes the little things in life mean so much.

Me? I was looking for some wide stock for a blanket chest (still in teh works) and happened upon a place in W Mass, that specializes in big stuff. Among other things, I got to see a 4 foot wide, 17 foot long piece of 5/4 curly bubinga. $2500. That was the hugest thing there, but they also had 5 foot slabs of maple burl for table tops, and things like that. Lots and lots of amazing things I never conceived of seeing, except in books.
In all, I left feeling awestruck... and $600 lighter, thanks to the huge cherry planks I bought.

Be careful... spend enough time there, and price becomes a relative thing. After seeing some of the bubinga, the $600+ I spent on 3 cherry planks didn't seem so big.
Well, not until the next day, when I checked my bank account... ouch!
