Unintentional skewing while sharpening
Mark Kozlowski
>When I sharpen with a honing guide I have trouble with the blade skewing. I can't seem to hone the blade square. I have tried 4 different guides (including the Veritas Mk I &II) and the blades always skew on one side. I have had the best results with the Kell honing guide but it is difficult to hold and hard to get a consistent micro-bevel. I have tried squaring the blade to the Veritas Mk I with a small t-square and have changed the glass plate that I glue the sandpaper to. My worst results were with the Veritas Mk II which everyone raves about so I must be doing something wrong. It has been suggested that I may be applying uneven pressure but I sincerely doubt that is the case. In my experiments I have tried pushing much harder on one side than the other and, while it makes some difference, it is not enough to account for my problem. Help!
