>Firstly, for those contemplating buying a Drill Doctor or learning to sharpen drills freehand (see "Drill Dr..." thread below), a streaming online video, "Sharpening Drill Bits By Hand"*, is available for free viewing at Coastal Training Technologies: www.coastal.com.

This covers freehand sharpening at the pedestal bench grinder and drill point grinding machines, as well. Although you'll be asked to register on your first visit, this will allow you to preview training videos in their entirety without obligation. Other videos you might want to view: "Hand Tools & Their Uses", " The Pedestal Grinder", "The Use of Measuring Tools", and "The Vernier Caliper & Protractor". All are found in the Basic Machine Technology section:

Technical Video Rental offers a wide range of instructional subjects on DVD (and some VHS) for a low fee of 10 dollars for any single rental (even less for multi-DVD or VHS sets). Order (PayPal), watch it for a week, send it back in the prepaid return mailer*. Besides woodworking categories (carving, furniture, tools, turning), you can also learn about bookbinding, engraving, leatherwork (holster making), sheetmetal, fine arts, casting, blacksmithing, luthiery, tweaking your AK47, and more. It would be nice if hand tool woodworking could become better represented, so please write to Travis or Susan, tell them about WoodCentral and let them know what you'd like. They're adding new titles constantly and will likely add your suggestions to their catalog. My experience: easy, good selection, great service.

The usual disclaimer: beyond my satisfied custom, I have no connection to either company.
