>I just completed the table and chair for my son's wedding. The table and chair were inspired by a table in "Fine Woodworking" and on the FW cd (yeah, yeah I know some of you don't care for FW, but I think that the authors and ideas found there are great!) The table was not nearly as nice as Steve Landis's table in FW, but it was a fantastically fun project. The vertical pieces are walnut and the horizontals are mahogany. I treat the mahogany with sodium hydroxide to get the uniform red. I used hot hide glue (thanks to you guys and your encouragement to use it for the first time. It is great by the way.)

>Here is a piture of the chair. Like the table, the verticals are walnut and the horizontals are mahogany. THe caning was a real pain, but I am glad that I did it in the traditional way. All joints are hand chopped and tenons cut by hand saw. I used the band saw to cut the general shape of the chair and table legs. All are hand scrapped. Three coats of shellac and two coats of lacquer. Thanks for looking.

Hey, I think the table particularly is really great!! That ain't easy to do. Need to hear more about your adventures of making up the banding, and installing it. Got glue? Got glue all over everything?? Alrighhhtttttt.

It really is a terrific piece of work.

What a wonderful present! Not only is the table and chair beautifully made (I would be very proud to call them mine), but they will carry such special sentiment all life long (I should save "lives" since these are going down the generations).
