Mohogany finish?

>Personaly I'm a finishing minimalist, so I'm not equiptd to answer this question for my Dad, who lives far away:
His friend has a hall umbrela unit in mahogany, presumably real mahogany. She wants finishing advice, and may want a clear, clean finish, or may want to return it to 19th century glory. For now lets assume the latter.
She will not have ready access to weird stain and dyes, the answer needs to come from a big box store. Also some rough repairs have been done with modern "mahogany", and also some crushed parts forced back together, so some cover-up may be required to blend the odd bits.
Therefore what is the:
- Best traditional looking finish for real mahogany that comes from a big box store.
- What is a good masking blending cover up to mask in the luan or whatever horrors may have been added.
Cheers!
