Fun with Stanley iron
Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA, gettin' soggy
>I just finished planing down the edge of a (sticking)* door in the bedroom. When I finished, the mortise lockset stuck out too far and would have rubbed. Stanley No. 71 to the rescue! It took me longer to try the lockset once and decide I needed it a little deeper than it took to knock the shallow part of the mortise down. Consistent depth; smooth finish. I know Stanley produced these longer than other tools, but why in heck did carpenters ever let them escape from the toolbox?
*Our theory is a very minor earthquake - at the same time that door started to stick more, the closet door began to rub at the top corner.
