>..and #0000 steel wool melts the crud and puts the old finish back into the wood so you don't lose too much age patina.
Do all your wood repairs, first, so the melted old finish can be rubbed into any new wood to color it.
Finish as you like. I prefer light wiping varnishes on tools handles, followed by paste was applied with more steel wool for a smooth finish.

>I clean lots of these and what I have found works good and is easy too is to just spray the wood with some WD40 and then wipe down with some fine steel wool.Good method for getting rid of paint splats as well. I then rub down with a rag.....In my experance very few tools need more then this.....Todd
