stanley #80 tutorial; coffin plane

>1)I bought a #80 scrapper and dont really know how to tune or use it.
How should the blade be ground? Flat like a scraper or at a 45 and then burnished like a scraper? Bevel to front or back etc.
2)The screws to hold the bar that holds the blade are brass and dont hold tight. I assume the original screws were lost and the brass replacements dont fit because stanley used their own special thread? Is it safe to re tap and use std screws?
Coffin plane
I picked up a coffin smoothing plane in decent shape. I cleaned and sharpened the blade and tried it. Works o.k. except i cant get the blade to extend evenly. The right side (looking at the blade with the plane botom up)sets deeper than the left. I reground the blade dead square and still the same problem. If I tap the rear of the blade on the left side to bring in line, no luck because the blade is really tight in the body and no left to right play. Should pare a little on the left side so I can skew the blade some or could there be a problem with the wedge or ?
Thanks for answering all of these questions. I am pretty inexperienced as may be obvious.
