Stubai/Ashley Isles/Pfeil/Deux Cerise

Vlad

>Hi everyone,

first time post me thinks. Used to be on Badger Pond until it went down. Tried to post this question on a Canadian site however they want me to register as a forum user, but...wait for it..... there is no place to register! LOL So here I am.

My questions. Does anyone know where to buy these chisels in Canada? Does anyone know where I can find an online detailed discussion/review of these chisels.

Many thanks and Happy Festivus.

>Are you asking about bench chisels or woodcarving chisels?

Pfiel are available at House of Tools and Canadian Woodworker here in Calgary. I've also seen them sold, also available by mail order, through KMS tools in BC.

I'm happy with my pfiel woodcarving chisels, but don't have any knowledge of their bench chisels. Two cherries bench chisels are also available at Lee Valley.

>Hi Vlad, took you that long to get on the island? Welcome aboard, buddy...

Two Cherries are not available at LV, but you can order them from Rosewood Studio. I think there's an outfit out west that carries them too.

There used to be a place that carried Ashley Isles in the GTA area, I think that was ToolTrend, the outfit that got purchased by Jesada. I don't think they're in business anymore...

Just found out that Chipping Away (http://www.chippingaway.com/) carries A-I and Stubai carving tools.

HTH, and stick around, good people here :-)

>Hi Jim,

Tossed the idea around some but with my little ones I'm just too tired/busy for any serious toolmaking. Now that my mill is wired, I'll be messing around and try to make some chisels when the warm weather comes around - August :o). However, this post is to educate myself, and if I can scrape a few Loonies together, to buy some new bench chisels.

Cheers

Loonies

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>I recognize that you slipped in a little Canadian slang on us there, but on this forum, I'd say you'd have no trouble at all scraping together some loonies (generic meaning).

>Hi Vlad,

You can also get 2 Cerises at European Hand Tools (www.europeanhandtools.com). I've done business with them and they are a first class business.

You can also get Pfeil at Langevin et Forest (www.langevinforest.com). They have 2 sets available, one with 4 and one with 6 chisels. Compare with KMS though, I haven't studied all the prices. Pfeils are great chisels, I have a few and recommend them most highly. I was a little disappointed at first but after a few sharpenings they have improved a lot.

Take care,

Frank

European Handtools, 2 thumbs up

Bob Dodge

>I've gotta agree with you guys regarding European Handtools. I thought the prices were very good, shipping was quick, and the packaging was remarkable. I was a little worried about possible shipping damage when I ordered a 4-stone set of Norton waterstones(220-1000-40000-8000 grit), along with two 8" white wheels.(80 and 160 grit). The order was very well packaged, and everything arrived in perfect condition. Darlene was great about keeping me informed on the order status, delivery time, etc. I'll definitely be doing business with these folks again.
