Wood for mallet
Guy
>Hello, I plan on making two mallets soon. One will be for chisel work and the other will be a dead blow (hollowed out wood with lead shot in the head). I was at Woodcraft today and looked at some Cocobolo and some Wenge. Both pieces were 2.5 board feet and when I picked them up the Cocobolo was obviously heavier than the Wenge. Are there any disadvantages to uses either one of these woods for a mallet? I have some walnut in the shop but it doesn't feel near as heavy as the other two woods. Also for the Wenge of Cocobolo, what type of glue would you recommend for gluing up the blanks? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Guy
