>I saw a post on UKworkshop.co.uk I believe, that had a picture of LV's new winding sticks. They're aluminum and they some how fit together for easier storage. I think the post said that they will be on the back cover of the January catalog. Anyway, just a heads up for those interested. John.

That's no model.... that's the guy who designs planes....!
Watch for the letter on the inside cover of the Jan catalogue for some editorial on the winding sticks...we resisted making them as long as we could - but rent does have to paid, and these are one of our most often requested products...

A nice looking product for those who want stable, well wearing winding sticks. Me, I want something I can periodically tweak (carve on, etc) and need a little fussing over; it just seems it should be part of the process to me. And it will sure beat my 'squinty eye' method I got right now...

The interlock and 1/8" scaling on the markings are both pretty nifty ideas - leave it to those LV guys to come up with a new ... well ... twist.

I like the Japanese ones that dovetail together, but they are pretty fussy to make.
I Thought the LV ones were already available, and I had already turned them down. I'm going to give them a look beause the real issue is how well they sight, and you guys seem to have given that a lot of attention.

It is a clever design.... we even tested different light/dark patterns, with different light/dark band widths, and with people of different visual acuity...

>Those sticks look just like the ones I invented/made! Except mine are 3/4 aluminum channel one black and one white, they too nest and store compactly. I would sue, but theirs has a nifty hang hole design improvement! I guess next time I make a tool I had better call, so they can whip a version out quicker. I made mine 4 years ago, long R and D session I bet. The 3/4 channel offers a wider base to prevent tipping over in a strong wind (in the shop?) or if bumped, thereby preventing strong language emanations.

It may look like he has them backwards, but from his perspective it is the same are your view. Why bother to make two distinct parts when one will suffice, just cut to length and reverse one piece, viola! a set of winding sticks. ( can we still call them sticks when they are extrusions? Hmmm... winding extrusions....)
