upgrade chisel question - long
Matt
>Greetings,
As a new WW, I'm looking to upgrade chisels. I would like the forum's ideas. I have the indestructible Irwin/Marples. I have only set up 3/6, b/c they take forever to setup the backs. I'm using Smith's diamond stone - coarse, to fine, then a 1000/4000 japanese water stone. They get rather sharp, but I'd rather do more WW then tool sharpening.
My criteria for new chisels:
setup time
edge retention
balance/grip (I have large hands)
mid-price (I'm starting a family)
I am currently building small pieces of furniture for the house, more functional than ornate. Once I master the basics, I'll move to the more aesthetically pleasing. I've been looking at Crown, Iles, Hirsch, Narex. Any suggestions?
As this is my first post, I would like to thank everyone who participates in this forum; it's always a pleasure to read.
Cheers,
Matt
