Forged Bench Hold fasts?

Dean Lapinel

>It's time for me to try some forged hold fasts and I have read about Phil's work in Alaska.

His web doesn't list the tool and his e-mail doesn't go through (for me).

Any other options or is his work the most highly recommended?

Thanks!

Dean

>Hi Dean,

I've got 2 of Phil's holdfasts and love them (one long, one short. If doing this again, I would get 2 long ones). They hold very well with minimal effort and 'pop' free only when I want them too, again, with minimal effort. I have no regrets in putting out the $$$ for them.

Having said all of that, the ones Joel is offering (at the above link) got some great reviews by Pop WW. Remember that they also tested Phil's. Joel's are a heap cheaper and by all accounts just as good. I would have gotten a set originally but they weren't available when I picked up mine from Phil.

>Dean,

I was going to make a new thread concening a "review" of two large holdfasts of Phil's that I recently acquired, but I guess I won't, and will just do it here.

Truth me told, I just can't seem to work up any type of special review. What more can be said about a tool that works as advertised? They are also little works of Art. I've only used them for a few days, but I can safely say that I am highly impressed with them and am very, very pleased with my decision to buy them.

I dunno nothing about Joel's holdfasts, but if I decide that I want more holdfasts I know that without hesitation I'd contact Phil again.

When Phil sent them down to the "Lower 48" they took a little longer than expected to arrive, and when I mentioned this to him he about fell over himself offering various ways to fix the problem. Customer Satisfaction is his utmost concern. He offered to send send me another pair if they didn't show up in another week. He had no way of knowing if I was trying to skin him out of another pair of holdfasts or not, but just felt that if it was a woodworker who was fussing, than all was on the up and up, which of coarse is the norm amongst us eh.
