Smoothing plane parts
Steve Marino in Betlehem, Pa.
>Hey Guys,
I'm kind of new here, and I usually use power tools, so I spend most of my time over on the regular message boards. I do most of my woodworking at night after the kids go to sleep. My shop is right under the baby's room, so lately, the less noise I make, the longer she sleeps. I "borrowed" an old hand plane from my Dad. It is need of a good cleaning. As far as I can tell it's a Stanley/Bailey No.4 type 9. I've read most of the WC articles about tuning/cleaning hand planes. The problem is I still don't know the neames for all of the parts. Does anybody know of websight like "Hand Planes for Dummies" that would have a picture with all of the parts labeled? Most of them are pretty easy to figure out, but if I'm going to start talking trash about my new hand plane with my "power tool guys", I'd really like to know what I'm talking about.
Thanks in advance for any help and I hope you all had a GREAT Thanksgiving!
