Follow up in "Questions about LA planes"
Felix B.
>After considering everything I've read about the LA planes I decided to go ahead and on Monday I ordered the LV BUS with an extra 50 degrees blade... Package arrived yesterday.
My old friend once told me: "There is a Volkswagen and a Mercedes. They will both get you there. The difference is in "how" you get there."
This is how I felt using the BUS right out of the box. I was curious to try it BEFORE touching up the blades on the stone. To say I was impressed with plane's cutting performance is an understatement.
I am not going to do a review because it would be redundant; Derek Cohen did an excellent job and I thank you Derek again for a great article! It certainly answered many of the questions and cleared concerns I had before the purchase.
To sum up my first experience: the quality of the plane and the workmanship that went into it is absolutely remarkable. I can't truly express the joy of using it especially when planing the cherry with reversing grain. It's like hot knife through butter. With a high angel blade the tear-outs are hardly noticeable! Switching blades takes no more than a minute... Ok, ok, I am done now :~)
Anyway, thanks to everyone who helped me to make up my mind - one of the nicest $200 spent!
To Rob Lee and his gang: thank you guys for excellent service and top-notch quality product.
Cheers,
Felix
