Cutters for the #45

>As the Clifton multi plane is a copy of the Stanley #55, I wonder if the cutters of the Clifton fit a Stanley #45. Anybody knows this?

>Dunno about the Stanley 45 ( I can check when I get home) but they most certainly fit the Record 405. Since the 405 is supposed to be somewhat of a copy of the stanley 45, it pretty reasonable to assume they do.

>Will Stanley cutt'as fit a Craftsman combo plane? minus the fact there's an extra notch in the top of the craftsman.

>If the Craftsman was made by Sargent, then no they won't fit a 45. I sold my Sargent/Craftsman some time ago, and can't remember the exact differences. but they wouldn't fit. Of course if it is a Stanley/Craftsman which I think also exist, then probably yes.

I think

>The Clifton is a copy of the #45 not the #55, but no matter as they use the same cutters. Stanley #45s and multiplane cutters are interchangeable. As for the Craftsman and Stanley, they are not interchangeable. Short blades can be used if they are in front of the adjuster, but that defeats the purpose of the adjuster. This is from a guy who has had hundreds of those planes and has made thousands of those blades. Whatever plane you have, make sure you get the 1/8" blade because that is the most useful.

>Ok I tried some blades in both planes...

The three types of blades I tried: Record 405 blades,Clifton multiplane blades, Stanley 45 blades

In the following planes: Record 405, Stanley 45

Here's the matrix(Scroll Down; not sure why my table is so low):

BladePlane -->Stanley 45Record 405
Clifton Yes But with work (see below)Yes
Stanley YesYes
Record YesYes

The Clifton blades were the right thickness but the notch is a TINY bit too small, nothing a good filing would not resolve.
