Skew blade angle?
Dave (Arlington, VA)
>Hi all -
I have mentioned in previous posts that I have - not so long ago - acquired a skewed wooden rebate plane. I am still working on it to get it in shape, and am beginning to think that the angle on the blade might have be ground (or sharpened) a little off...because one side of blade projects further from the sole than the other.
I don't have any other skew bladed planes to compare it to, and I can't get my head around the geometry involved, so how do you figure the "right" angle at which the blade should be ground (and I am not referring to the angle on the bevel, but the angle the bottom of the blades makes in reference to the sides of the blade)?
Is it the same or some relation to the angle that the mouth at the bottom of the blade bed makes relative to the sides of the plane?
Quite confused and hoping that there is a simple answer that I have overlooked. Thanks!
