Broad Axes--Adam and others

>Adam--
I thoroughly enjoyed your article on broad axes (Arts & Mysteries), along with your piece on Colonial Williamsburg. I must say I am very pleased with my new subsription to PW and look forward to more of your work (along with I think the great influence that Chris S. has had there).
Anyway, If you were going to have one broad axe, would you recommend a single bevel (with a flat side) or a double bevel? What axe are you using in the photos--is it an antique or a new model? In terms of new axes on the market, I'm not aware of any except the ones from Gransfors Bruks and they appear to have longer handles than the one you are using. Perhaps they are more meant for working two-handed on logs, etc., rather than how you use it. How long is the handle on your axe?
Thanks for any advice you can provide here. I currently use a draw knife to bring chair parts down to size, but would like to have a good broad axe, too. My small hatchet just doesn't quite have the mass to get the job done efficiently.
Keep up the great work!
