Update on LN#3 must go back

Judy Gassett

>Reference http://www.woodcentral.com/cgi-bin/handtools.pl?noframes;read=73210

I received my bronze LN#3 back today (see the above link for the issues with the original). It is dead flat and 90 degrees to the sole. One side is still slightly thicker than the other. LN says that this is because bronze planes are sanded and polished by hand, not by machine like the metal planes..news to me. Bronzes are hand finished...

The next birth In the Gassett family will be a LV router plane currently on order. I have no routers right now..Hope it ships before the EQ we all know is coming strikes on the west coast.. Even FEMA (who in 2000 predicted terrorism in NY, a hurricane in NO and a EQ in SF) says it a matter of when, not if. I may start a thread on essential hand tools.

small shooting board?

Dave Thompson - Champaign IL

>Is it for a shooting board that you bought an LN#3 for? If so, what was your reasoning for choosing this plane to do shooting with over say a longer/heavier or LA plane e.g. #5, #9, #62?

If not shooting, what else are you doing that you require 90 degree sides?

Just curious...

Inferior quality

>Judy,

I didn't get a chance to read that thread you linked, but in my opinion, LN has inferior quality compared to vintage stanley planes that had ROSEWOOD handles.

Sorry- I just couldn't resist

Guess not, eh?

>Not only pay for shipping but instead of shipping I asked for a 4 inch bronze lever cap for another plane and received it, carefully wrapped and polished. This is customer care!. PS the waiting list for the 5 socket chisel set is 16 weeks

What's up with all this talk about...

Scott Burr in Ben Lomond CA

>Earth quakes Judy? Personally I've heard little talk of the next "big one". You say everyone knows about it...

There will always be earth quakes, and nobody can predict them. Just a small part of life around these parts. The same goes with other natural disasters, though some of them are easier to track and predict.

Now terrorism that's another story...I ain't going there.

Also a LN no.3 would not be in my essential hand tool list...

>It is a great plane (bronze) for an on-board tool kit. You CA residents all have boats out back stocked with the necessities, right? Enough food, water, and reading material to last until you hit the coast of Arizona....

Arizona?

It will never happen...

>California can't fall into the ocean. Because NV & AZ suck so much!

Scott, dabbeling in old earth quake humor this morning...;^)
